I just posted a YouTube video of our Noble & Wood Cycle Beater idling empty with all guards off, mostly to test the motor, belts, and VFD.
Getting this beater running has been a slow background project for us. Over the past year or so I’ve painted the interior with epoxy bathtub paint, fixed some broken bolts, reversed it on its stand, and connected the motor stand to the main beater stand so the drive belt geometry does not depend on the beater being bolted to the floor. I’ve also added a VFD so we can run the 3-phase motor on our single-phase power.
In the video, I put in some temporary wiring and fired up the motor to make sure everything runs smoothly. The beater is set with a minimum gap so the beater bars don’t touch the bedplate.
I still have several tasks to finish before we can actually beat pulp:
- Install proper permanent wiring
- Refit the belt guards
- Install the drain fitting, and make a plug for it so it does not trap pulp
- Install and adjust the counterbalance arm
- Make and install the handwheel for the minimum gap adjustment
- Polish up and install the water level scale
- Collect all the other equipment required to handle that amount of pulp
There are probably other small items I’ve forgotten to put on the list as well.
